Abstract
Thanks to improved public health, environmental safety and medical advancements, populations worldwide age. Higher age often comes with more health problems like heart conditions, metabolism disorders (diabetes, high cholesterol,…), cancer and more susceptibility to infections.
“Multimorbidity Wheel” aims to help medical professionals with an overall picture of their patients health status. It fuses all of the patient’s diagnoses into a single nested doughnut chart, which always has the same shape, aiding in recognizing common patterns in patient groups and helping to tailor the care to these disease-complexes.
Details
“Multimorbidity Wheel” consists of two doughnut charts (ring charts): An inner ring, that is always visible, and an outer ring, where only the relevant slices are shown.
ICD-11 chapters and level 1-blocks are used for grouping diagnoses.
The inner ring contains the ICD-11 chapters. The size of the slices depends on the number of level 1-blocks this chapter contains (e.g. “Diseases of the cardiovascular system” contains 15 level-1 blocks). The total number of level 1-blocks is currently 261.
The outer ring contains the ICD-11 level 1-blocks (e.g. “Cardiac arrhythmia”). If the patient has an any diagnoses within a certain level-1 block, it is shown. If any of these diagnoses is active, the slice is colored. If all matching diagnoses are inactive (i.e. lie in the past), the slice is gray.
